How To Prepare For Your Engagement Session
The engagement Session is meant to be a fun and upbeat experience. The more you stress out of overthink it, the more difficult you'll make it for yourself. I promise you it won't be as awkward as you probably think it will be. Take a breath. Be prepared. Be in love. And You'll be fine. :)
2. Location, Location, Location
Your engagement session should be in a place that's meaningful to the two of you. It doesn't have to be something as extravagant as you two on top of a mountain riding horses wearing flower crowns. It can be though. That would be awesome.
Your location can be as simple as your own home and backyard. This is a good choice for when you really want your true life and personalities to shine through. We can shoot the two of you being lazy watching movies, making coffee or wine, cooking dinner, gardening.. whatever it is that you guys love to do together. :)
If you want an outdoorsy session, I recommend a local park, field, or garden. (Be sure to check the park's website to make sure they're okay with professional photography, though!)
I love outdoor adventure sessions. I'm totally down for exploring to a place that's new to everyone and just wandering around finding the prettiest spots. Hiking spots, mountains, and sea-sides are awesome for this type of session.
3. Choosing Your Outfits
This part is really hard. I know. Been there. There's just too many choices and too much pressure for it to be perfect.
Luckily, in the engagement shoot you get an outfit change. Typically people choose one that's formal and one that's more casual. I SERIOUSLY recommend you doing this! It's going to be so great to be able to look back and have some images where the two of you are all fancied up AND some that show the more realistic side of your life.
Formal outfit wise, maxi dresses are always good for the ladies. It looks GREAT on camera. If that's not your style, then a short dress or fancy blouse works just as good. Make sure you're comfortable and confident. Buying something new is always great because if you're anything like me, you feel the best in new clothes. ;)
For the fellas, you can never go wrong with a button up and a tie. Pair that with some fancy pants, and you guys are good to go!
Neutral colors look great with my editing style and are good for a timeless look. Coordinate your colors, but don't match! This isn't your childhood all white beach photoshoot. No logos!!!! Please. You'll regret that. Patterns are great, but make sure you two don't look busy. Hats are ALWAYS cute, but I'll probably get you to take it off for some shots. :)
Just be comfortable. The images won't be as candid and casual when if one of you isn't comfortable in their clothes!
